Bridgeport resident Timothy Staton, 23, has pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon dating back to an incident with police late last year.

Staton - who has previous felony convictions for robbery, narcotics, firearm and racketeering offenses - admitted to fleeing from police on Sept. 13 last year, during which he removed a Glock 43 9mm handgun and threw it to the ground.

According to U.S. Attorney John Durham, it is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Staton has been detained since his arrest following the police chase. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20, when he will face a maximum term of up to 10 years in prison.
